Update on Transitions and Hiring
Recruitment for 2022-2023 has begun. We currently have an elementary classroom position available. If other positions come available, they will be announce to the community via Gabi, as well as posted on the school website on ISS Schrole Connect. This year, like last year, we continue to focus on diversity in our recruitment process.
We currently have four classes in third grade and anticipate we will continue with four classes in the coming year. Kevin Fayarchuk has offered to move to fourth grade in August 2022. Kevin has been teaching third grade for the past 17 years at AISB. He has thoroughly enjoyed being part of the third grade community over the years. Kevin is very excited to be making the move to fourth grade and looks forward to the teaching opportunity at a new level and joining the 4th grade team.
This leaves us with a current opening in grade 2 which may still change if current members of our team express interest. The position has been advertised as an open elementary position. Since advertising the position, we have received over 125 applications which are currently under review. The application window closes today after which we will begin the interview process.
Learning Walks: What are those?
October has come to a close and we have not done a very good job of getting out into classrooms and observing the great learning experiences you create for our students. Diane, Nikki and I are hoping to change that beginning the week of November 8th- 12th. Beginning November 8th we will each be responsible for one of three rotation groups. Our goal will be to observe each individual on our list at least once each week and have a minimum of one reflective conversation with each of the twenty-three people who are part of our rotation. After a three-week rotation, we will switch groups and start again. These learning walks are great opportunities for us to build our knowledge about what is happening across the school. A part of AISB's professional growth and development policy, engaging in conversation around the observation to support continued growth is part of the process. To help us make these experiences as supportive as possible, we kindly request you complete this survey on or before Tuesday, November 2nd, 4:00 pm. Thank you!
Beginning November 8th and through to November 24th, you can expect the following individual to be taking learning walks in your classroom.
With CAPEX requests completed, it is now time to set our sights on resources we may require for the 2022-2023 school year.
Core Instructional Leads and Encore Teachers are responsible for inputting the orders on the spreadsheet for your team/subject area. Nikki, Nate, and Karen M. will oversee subscription renewal and all-school resource needs. Barbara has sent a more detailed email to the Instructional Leads outlining the process. A summary of the process is below.
Like last year, the ordering process will be divided into two sections. First we will order our overseas items, including overseas consumables. These orders are due on or before Tuesday, January 11th, 5:00 pm. Local ordering takes place mid-February.
Please click on this link for the Ordering Process and Procedures. Please read through the directions carefully before beginning the process.
If you have questions, please see Krista. Tuesday's Conversation, November 2nd, is reserved for Instructional Leads to begin the ordering process with their teams.
A big thank you to everyone for your flexibility and extra effort this week. It clearly takes a village to run a school during Halloween. Don't forget to move your clocks back one hour on Sunday, 31 October and enjoy your long weekend.
Assembly- November 12th
Grade 1 will host our next assembly on Friday, November 12th. Grades 1 and 2 will be in the theatre, and Grades 3-5 will watch it from their classrooms.
Building C
Building C toilets are closed for the winter. Please do not use the toilets as there is no water to flush them.
