I am excited to announce that Karen MacMeekin will be joining our elementary team beginning in August 2016. She will take on the role of ES Librarian. Karen is coming from Denver, Colorado and is joined by her husband, Henrik Hofvander. Karen has been teaching library for 9 years. More information about Karen will be made available when we have completed all hiring (across all three divisions). We continue to search for a teacher intern for the 2016–2017 School year.
David Schwartz, math and science author (and the man behind the 4 Kgs of popcorn request), will be joining us tomorrow and Wednesday.
The mornings assemblies will be in the theatre, he has lots to share so please arrive a little early so we can begin as soon as possible. His workshops will be held in the Gr. 2 spare classroom.
Signed copies of his books will be available for purchase. I will be delivering book order forms some time today (Gr. 3-5) or tomorrow (K - Gr.2). Similar to author visits in the past, we are going with the order and then delivery in a couple of weeks.
Peter Schueller is an American Director/Acting/Voice Coach, who is living here in Budapest. Here is his biography. He is considering putting on a musical revue for both students and adults between March-May, 2016. Please see the board outside of the theatre for further details.
Believe it or not, there are lots of terrific free websites out there that are great for learning. Universities, nonprofits, and even for-profit companies make them available for free, for all kinds of reasons. Check them out, here, on Common Sense Media.
Thank you everyone for all your help and support with Erma Anderson's visit last week. She was impressed by the progress that we have made as an elementary school since her visit one year ago. Special thanks to Leigh for organizing her visit, to Heather and Hillary for helping support Leigh in the topics covered, and Erica for arranging the coverage for the scheduling. We appreciate everyone's flexibility during Erma's visit and hope it was a valuable learning experience. Please be sure to complete the feedback form, sent out by Leigh, regarding Erma's visit.
Tomorrow's faculty meeting is set aside for grade level teams to work together on solving problems using manipulatives, creating rich problems from word problems, and/or preparing pre-assessments, formative assessments, and/or summative assessments for upcoming units. Encore teachers should check the faculty meeting schedule for their Tuesday focus.
Below you will find the links to all Erma's presentations and resources shared during her visit. The link to Erma's Live Binder can be found in the side bar.
