Congratulations on a job well done at Back to School Night. Verbal feedback from parents (throughout the event) was very positive. It was wonderful to see the consistency in presentation and content as I visited classrooms throughout the night. This goes a long way when assuring parents that our community of educators are committed to the growth and development of their child. Thank you so much for all your hard work preparing for the event.
A great big thank you also goes out to Karen Ramirez, Shawn Edwards, Maribeth Relano, the Blazer Voices, and the faculty and staff who volunteered their time to support the babysitting initiative. Parents were grateful for the service and the Blazer Voices were able to collect funds to support their initiatives throughout the school year. This service will also be provided on October 28 (Halloween). We anticipate a larger number of families to take advantage of the service on this day. If you are willing to support the Blazer Voices, please let them know. Services for Halloween will run from 3:30-5:30 pm.
As with all events, there is room for growth. Please take the time to reflect by completing the following survey. We will gather this data, along with feedback from parents, to determine any modifications or additions to next year’s evening.
Click here to complete the BTSN Survey for Faculty. Please complete the survey by Friday, September 9th.

We have 25+ very eager 4th and 5th grade students that are ready to support our younger students during AM and PM recess.
Here is a quick overview so all can understand how this works:
- Recess Buddies will leave their classrooms when the bell rings at 10:40 and head to Playground A.
- There will be 2-3 students per recess session. You will know them by their Recess Buddies button.
- 4th graders will be helping with the 10:40-11:00 recess time.
- 5th graders will be helping with the 12:35-12:50 recess time.
- Their job is to walk around, play with the younger students, include them in activities, seek out children being left out, help solve small disputes, and assist any teacher on duty as requested.
- Larger incidents are reported to the teacher on duty. Recess buddies have been told not to handle them on their own.
- Recess Buddies understand they cannot use Recess Buddies as an excuse for being late.
Recess Buddies will debut on Monday. You will see me and my co-leader, 4th grader Kilián Harmat, out and about making sure things are running smoothly.
MAP Assessment for Grades 3, 4, and 5 begin this week. Please take some time to read and familiarize yourself with the information below. All faculty and staff need to familiarize themselves with the schedule as testing times impact the whole school. Did you know that 775 million adults in the world illiterate and two-thirds of them are women? This means that 1 in 5 adults cannot read.
Did you know that 52% of illiterates live in India and China?
Did you know that the population of Africa has a literacy rate of less than 60%?
Why is literacy important? The answer is simple. When people learn to read and write they have the power to change their own lives. To help solve problems facing society, we must start by building a more literate population. People who know how to read and write are more likely to lift themselves out of poverty, improve their family’s health, and keep long-term jobs.
This Thursday is International Literacy Day - a day set aside to promote awareness of illiteracy with the hope of decreasing this ongoing human rights violation.
Here is a link to the International Literacy Association where you can find out more information and sign up for activities to support International Literacy Day.

Our annual Walk the Wish event is coming Friday, September 23 from 4:00 - 5:30 pm. This is a great all-community event for students, teachers and parents, and a great cause for supporting children's wishes at the Csodalampa Foundation. The event is followed by a spaghetti dinner sponsored by our PSA.
Piroska, Marc, Barbara and Ben are hard at work preparing a great event, and we hope to see you there! We will be holding assemblies for students and providing more information about the children we will be supporting. Please save the date in your calendar. All practices, activities and hosted clubs will be cancelled on September 23 to support Walk the Wish.
